Transform a pedestrian pair of white sneakers into something unique and special using Mod Podge, glitter and jewels. This craft will not only produce fashionable shoes, it’s a great activity to do with tweens or during your child’s next sleepover.

Edit Steps

Edit Preparation

  1. Remove any tags/stickers from the sneakers. Make sure sneakers are clean. Remove any adhesive left over from price tags etc.

    • Consider removing the laces to make designing easier.

  2. Separate the glitter and bedazzling tools into piles. The best way to get inspired is seeing all your materials front and center. If possible, put the materials in separate bowls.

  3. Use painter’s tape to mark off designs on sneakers. For example, if you want to cover only the heel area with glitter mark off a delineation between the heel and the rest of the shoe.

Edit Bedazzling

  1. Pour the Mod Podge into a small bowl. Wipe or tap the dry brush on the table a few times to remove any loose bristles.

  2. Dip the paintbrush into the Mod Podge. Cover one section of your shoe. Apply the Mod Podge liberally to ensure total coverage of the canvas of the sneaker.

  3. Apply glitter or jewels immediately. Work quickly before the Mod Podge dries.

    • If you are applying glitter, pour glitter over the area and allow the residue to fall into a paper plate. You can recycle or use the fallen glitter again or on another portion of the shoe.
  4. Add more Mod Podge to another area of the shoe and continue to decorate. Work in sections, being careful not to brush up against previously decorated areas with your hand (which could disturb areas that could be in the process of drying).

  5. Allow to dry. When all has dried, finish with a sealing layer of Mod Podge.

  6. Done. The shoes are now bedazzled and ready to wear.

Edit Tips

  • If you are doing this craft for a child’s/tween’s party, make sure you get all of the guests’ shoe sizes so everyone has a pair of shoes that fit properly.
  • Add a layer of Scotchguard to your shoes to protect them from the elements.
  • Allow up to 48 hours for shoes to dry for best results.
