It was great while it lasted, but Canonical has admitted defeat with its Ubuntu One Cloud service and started the shut down process. But not to worry, there is still time to make sure you have a copy of all your files and music, and find a new online cloud storage provider.
Part of the cloud service has already been brought to a halt and it will not be included in the upcoming 14.04 release, but at least there is still plenty of time to salvage all of your files before they are permanently deleted.
From the announcement: As of today (2 April), it will no longer be possible to purchase storage or music from the Ubuntu One store. The Ubuntu One file services will not be included in the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release, and the Ubuntu One apps in older versions of Ubuntu and in the Ubuntu, Google, and Apple stores will be updated appropriately. The current services will be unavailable from 1 June 2014; user content will remain available for download until 31 July, at which time it will be deleted.
